Iyego Coffee Factory was established in 1954 and serves around 800 smallholder farmers in the area, each of whom farms on about half a hectare. The region has red volcanic soil thanks to nearby Mt. Kenya, and farmers deliver their coffee here as ripe cherry. It is sorted and depulped, then fermented underwater for 13–25 hours before being washed four times and dried on raised tables for 8–13 days

In the cup, this coffee is sugary with toffee, lemon and grapefruit flavors; sweet with balanced fruit acidity and a smooth mouthfeel.
